Created in the 1980s, these gnomes became an absurdist calling card of the political Orange Movement, an underground peaceful protest movement. There are at least 45 in Wroclaw, but these were the ones that I ran into...
This one took me two weeks to find and ironically was one of the closest to my hostel. I just didn't think to look up for gnomes...
outside my morning coffee spot
on the square
outside a pub on the square
on the mail drop outside the post office
outside a local store
A real live gnome found walking on the square
outside a local hotel
outside of the Art Hotel
outside of a church on the square
a couple of blocks off the square
right by the fountain
near the local museum
right outside my hostel window
next to the local merchant booths
outside of a local shop
in the middle of the doors of a drugstore
Next time I'm in Wroclaw I'll find the rest of them!
Wow. Impressive little guys. I don't really see the one on the lamppost unless it's the thing about halfway up the pole. What a fun little novelty for Wroclaw. (Merry will just go gah-gah!!!) Thanks for the pictures, Molly.
ReplyDeleteAnd the town looks soooooooo clean, so pretty. How about some pictures of some of the unique cars we could see in the background?
i do love these little guys! gah-gah!!!
ReplyDeletei tried to pick a favorite, but there's too many i like. some of these look like they are right in the middle of the walkway and are not very tall. i guess stumbling over a gnome would be one way of finding them! love 'em; keep up the search; you must find them ALL.
okay, i went back and reviewed them. maybe my favorite is the one 'outside a local hotel'. i like the expression on his face.
happy birthday to you
